Preparing to hire from the next generation of employees requires can be challenging. Not only are you hiring for a blend of existing roles and completely new ones as the working landscape evolves…. But regardless of a role – you are hiring from a talent pool that doesn’t behave in the same way as previous generations. They have unique expectations and where you look for this talent is constantly evolving.

Here are some tips for hiring the next generation:

  1. Keep innovating with social media: The next generation of employees are highly active on social media platforms. Just perhaps not the ones that have been a traditional stronghold for talent. Instagram, Snapchat & TicTok are great channels for promoting your employer brand and company culture. LinkedIn still has it’s place… but don’t neglect other channels and crucially keep your eye out for the next innovative social platform and consider how this could be part of your talent attraction ecosystem.
  2. Emphasize company culture: The next generation of employees values a positive work culture that supports work-life balance, diversity, and inclusivity. Emphasize your company's culture in job postings, interviews, and employer branding initiatives.
  3. Offer flexible work arrangements: The next generation of employees values flexibility in their work arrangements, such as remote work options, flexible schedules, and job sharing. However the cost of living can be a key factor for this talent pool. Either they are still living at home – or their living situation isn’t fully conducive to remote working. Having plans to support talent in these situations will enable you to tap into a wider section of the talent market.
  4. Provide opportunities for growth and development: The next generation of employees values learning and development opportunities. Highlight opportunities for growth and development in job postings and during interviews.
  5. Emphasize technology: The next generation of employees grew up with technology and are comfortable using it. Highlight the technology and tools your organization uses to attract tech-savvy candidates.
  6. Offer competitive compensation and benefits: The next generation of employees value fair compensation and competitive benefits packages. Ensure that your compensation and benefits packages are in line with industry standards and reflect the unique needs and preferences of the next generation of employees.

By following these tips, organizations can attract and retain the next generation of employees and build a workforce that is equipped to meet the challenges of the future.
