2023 will be the year in which life restabilises. People and businesses will cement their new normal in terms of working patterns. Whilst most roles will be far more remote than prepandemic, for important meetings and group interactions, face-to-face will return to being the default and travel will start to become a regular part of life for many people again. From a recruitment perspective, the taboo about not hiring people you haven’t met has been so firmly broken that many hiring processes will remain fully virtual to make the most of the flexibility such an approach affords.

For roles where there is still an expectation of significant office time – a fully virtual hiring journey can be problematic. Candidates in these roles will continue to place value on the office environment where they will spend a great deal of time – perhaps more so now that offices are no longer the hive of activity they used to be. Not experiencing the office during the recruitment process will increase hesitancy* for offer acceptance for these candidates.

To mitigate against this, talent acquisition teams should enable flexibility in their hiring processes and align the interview steps with the nature of the role.
